ESET Personal Firewall v1054 released

A new firewall module for ESET Smart Security has been released. ESET Personal Firewall module (v1054, build date 20091015) contains the following changes: In the user interface, a new section under Setup → Personal Firewall → IDS and Advanced Options is now available named Vista/Windows 7 Services. In this section, the following new options are available: Add IPv6 addresses from Local network to the Trusted Zone (fe80::/64)Allow Web Services Discovery (WSD) in the Trusted ZoneAllow multicast address resolution in the Trusted Zone (LLMNR)Windows 7 homegroup supportIn addition to the features added to support Microsoft Windows 7, two new features have been added in the Zone setup: Addresses excluded from active protection (IDS) - Here you can enter the IP addresses of devices to exclude which perform unusual behavior that can produce attacks, but are otherwise trusted. An example of this is certain brands of residential broadband gateway routers and network printers which perform port scans in order to enumerate hosts on the network subnet. This behavior can be evaluated as an attack and blocked in some circumstances.Addresses allowed to receive a notification about the unavailability of TCP/UDP ports - IP addresses listed here will receive an RST from ESET Personal Firewall if a connection at the attempted port is blocked.Users of ESET Smart Security do not need to perform any special activity to obtain the new module. It will be downloaded automatically the next time the software performs a virus signature database update.

ESET Smart Security & ESET NOD32 Antivirus v4.0.468.0 trial versions released

ESET Mobile Antivirus for Symbian OS Public Beta 1 Released

ESET Mobile Antivirus for Symbian OS Public Beta 1 has been released. This new program from ESET protects against a variety of threats for Symbian OS-powered smartphones. It is derived from ESET’s NOD32 Antivirus engine, which is available Windows Mobile, BSD, Linux and Windows platforms. ESET Mobile Antivirus contains the following features: FEATURES BENEFITS Activation - performed online via graphic user interfaceArchive Scanning - variable in-depth scanning of archives Heuristics - pioneering proactive protection for mobile platforms Logs and Statistics - provides information about scanning tasks and virus signature database status as well as a report on scanning history On-Access Scanning - scans newly-created and opened files; scanning of files received via Bluetooth, IR and Wi-Fi On-Demand Scanning - scans running processes and storage (including specific subfolders); standardized logs Quarantine - infected objects can be deleted or moved to a quarantine folder; once in quarantine, objects can be deleted or restored Updates - updates can be performed automatically on a daily (default), weekly or monthly schedule, or performed manaually by the user on an on-demand basis User Interface - friendly, easy-to-use user interface CONSIDERATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS The beta test version is a precursor of the final product without full functionality and documentation. ESET Technical Alert - Windows 7 upgrades with ESET Smart Security

Microsoft has notified software developers that some of the technologies used by security, backup, disk utility and network management programs are incompatible with the Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade process. This is a direct result of Microsoft’s design decisions and impacts most antivirus solutions that scan network data. ESET has verified that the Personal firewall module in both versions 3 and 4 of ESET Smart Security is affected. The problem only affects computers being upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows Vista SP1 and SP2. Customers working with new installations of Windows 7 will not experience these problems, nor will customers upgrading from Windows XP (which performs a clean install). ESET NOD32 Antivirus is not affected. ESET is working closely with Microsoft as we approach the official launch of Windows 7 to address any potential compatibility issues and promptly communicate issues like this to our valued partners.
