| 129 | Problem with Virus Signature Update 391909/03/2009 On Sunday, March 8th at 9:52PM PDT, ESET released an update of our heuristics module, v1091, together with standard virus signature database update number 3918. Unfortunately, an error in the heuristics module, coupled with the specific virus signature database update, caused ESET to incorrectly identify several Windows operating system files, including dllhost.exe and msdtc.exe, as being infected with Win32/Kryptik.JX.Details:Some Windows files were flagged as infected.If the computer is not restarted once files are moved to quarantine then on the next update (virus signature database 3919) the changes to the module will be reverted and the computer will run fine.Virus signature database 3920 and later tell ESET v3 and v4 products to automatically restore the false positives from quarantine.For NOD32 v2.7, the false positive has to be removed manually, following the instructions in the Knowledgebase article, below.An error in synchronization during quality control resulted in a failure to properly test the new heuristic module with the new signature file prior to release. Process changes have been made to prevent this mistake from being repeated.The update downloads were stopped within ten minutes of the update release, and the update was reverted to its previous version. Due to this immediate response, less than 5% of our users were affected. Virus signature database update number 3919, was released at 1:00AM PDT (March 9th) which corrects the problem.
